The Acting Chief State Prosecutor and the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution meet with the President of EUROJUST

Prishtina, June 7, 2024 – Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi, together with the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo (PSRK), Mr. Blerim Isufaj, and the SPRK Prosecutor, Mrs. Ilirjana Çollaku – Tafa, have held a meeting with the President of EUROJUST, Mr. Ladislav Hamran.

The central theme of the meeting between the representatives of the State Prosecutor’s institution and President Hamran was the advancement of bilateral cooperation, specifically the need for the presence of Kosovo as a permanent observer at the EUROJUST, which was assessed as an essential step for strengthening mutual cooperation.

In this context, the President of EUROJUST has highly appreciated the commitment, cooperation and close interaction that the Kosovar prosecutors have had and continue to have with this EU agency in the field of criminal justice.

On the other hand, Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi, has thanked President Hamran for the constructive cooperation and professional assistance that EUROJUST has provided for the State Prosecutor, stressing that we must be determined in fighting all forms of crime, in which case he expressed the readiness that this cooperation to deepen in the future.

Meanwhile, the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution, Mr. Blerim Isufaj, spoke about the actions that the SPRK has undertaken to intensify and advance cooperation with EUROJUST, as well as emphasized that the SPRK will respond in a timely and effective manner to all requests and obligations addressed by EUROJUST- i.

In November 2022, the institution of the State Prosecutor formalized the legal cooperation with EUROJUST, appointing the permanent liaison prosecutor as well as a prosecutor as a point of contact regarding the implementation of the “WB CRIM JUST” project, which has begun to be implemented in the Western Balkans.
