Acting Chief State Prosecutor Mr. Besim Kelmendi participates in the launch of the Anti-Money Laundering Intelligence Network in Kosovo

Prishtina, October 10, 2024 – As part of efforts to advance the fight against illegal financial activities, Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi, was part of the panel during the launch of the Joint Intelligence Network against Money Laundering in Kosovo, organized by the Financial Intelligence Unit. The event was also attended by prosecutors from the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor, members of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, special prosecutors, prosecutors from Basic Prosecutions of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as representatives of international partners and national institutions.

On this occasion, Mr. Kelmendi emphasized that this network will serve as an additional mechanism for the work of the State Prosecutor and provide an excellent opportunity for cooperation between law enforcement institutions and the private sector, aimed at preventing and combating money laundering, which involves funds gained from serious criminal activities such as organized crime, terrorism, and high-level corruption, which severely harm the state budget.

Furthermore, in his speech, Acting Chief State Prosecutor Mr. Kelmendi stated that the participation of prosecutors from the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor, members of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, special prosecutors, and prosecutors from Basic Prosecutions of the Republic of Kosovo, demonstrates the readiness of the State Prosecutor to be actively involved in the Anti-Money Laundering Intelligence Network. “I am here to express institutional commitment and dedication, and to ensure that all the resources of the State Prosecutor’s Office are available to support this important network, so that the success against crime becomes a joint success of all law enforcement institutions and the private business sector. This success is in the interest of the citizens of Kosovo and enables much more effective cooperation with our international partners, as well as facilitates Kosovo’s path toward Euro-Atlantic integration,” Mr. Kelmendi said.

Other participants in the event also highly valued the role and significance of launching such a network to combat money laundering, organized crime, and the financing of terrorism.
