Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Besim Kelmendi: The time has come for advanced inter-institutional cooperation in the fight against corruption, organized crime, and money laundering

Prishtina, October 9, 2024 – Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi, held an important meeting with key representatives from institutions involved in combating economic crime and corruption, including the Kosovo Tax Administration, the Financial Intelligence Unit, Kosovo Customs, the Anti-Corruption Agency, the Notary Chamber, the Property Tax Department of the Ministry of Finance, the Cadastral Agency, and the Civil Registration Agency, among other institutional representatives.

The goal of this meeting was to discuss enhancing inter-institutional cooperation to enable effective investigations based on intelligent data and the tracking of financial movements.

On this occasion, Acting Chief State Prosecutor Kelmendi emphasized that while inter-institutional cooperation has been necessary, it needs improvement. He stated that it is time to foster stronger engagement and hold accountable those actors who do not show sufficient cooperation.

Mr. Kelmendi further underlined that the current situation, where responsibilities are divided and shared goals remain unmet, can no longer be tolerated. Kelmendi urged all institutions to demonstrate concrete and ongoing commitment to achieving tangible results. He stressed that accountability will be demanded from each institution for their efforts, ensuring that any lack of dedication will not go without consequence. He called for immediate improvements and a new level of cooperation to achieve common goals in the fight against corruption, organized crime, and money laundering.

This initiative reinforces the commitment of the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor to advancing the fight against corruption and ensuring that relevant institutions work closely to track illegal financial activities and strengthen the integrity of public institutions.
