Acting Chief State Prosecutor Participates in Regional Conference on “Judiciary Effectiveness in Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption in the Western Balkans”

Budva, September 27, 2024 – As part of the exchange of experiences among regional justice systems, the Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi, together with the Chairman of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Mr. Ardian Hajdaraj, and the Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Office, Mr. Valdet Gashi, are participating in the regional conference on “Judiciary Effectiveness in Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption in the Western Balkans.”

The purpose of this conference, organized as part of the OSCE’s regional project for monitoring judicial processes in the fight against organized crime and corruption in the Western Balkans, is to discuss common issues related to the prosecution and adjudication of organized crime and corruption.

In his address, Acting Chief Prosecutor Kelmendi delivered a presentation on targeted cases, specifically focusing on the prioritization and prosecution of high-profile corruption and organized crime cases. He elaborated on the functioning of the case-targeting mechanism, the selection process, cooperation efforts, results, and the successes of the joint team handling these cases. He also presented specific cases targeted by the Special Prosecution Office.

The conference, held in Budva, Montenegro, under the organization of the OSCE, includes representatives from the justice systems of Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and the European Union.
