Prishtina, February 12, 2021 – The Chief State Prosecutor, Aleksandër Lumezi, has held a collegium with all the Chief Prosecutors of the Basic Prosecution Offices, the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Office, the Chief Prosecutor of the Appellate Prosecution and the Chairman of the Prosecutorial Council.
On the occasion of early parliamentary elections to be held in the Republic of Kosovo, Chief State Prosecutor Lumezi demanded from all chief prosecutors and prosecutors to committing highly in the conduct of the electoral process.

In order to maintain the integrity of this process, the Chief State Prosecutor has appointed 88 prosecutors who will be engaged on election day at the national level, in order to ensure a fair and legal process, in which case he warned that all measures will be taken actively and without delay against those who violate the provisions of the Criminal Code, related to criminal offenses against the right to vote and all other forms of crime related to the electoral process.

Meanwhile, an essential part of this meeting was the presentation of the Work Plan of the State Prosecutor for 2021, which specifically presented the general objectives and those with priority, which aim to advance the work of the institution of the State Prosecutor.

In this context, Chief State Prosecutor Lumezi emphasized the handling priority of a group of criminal offenses, in particular the fight against corruption, organized crime, economic crimes, war crimes, cybercrime, and domestic violence, violence against children and gender-based as well as cases of vote violation.

Also, a matter of special interest in this meeting was the application of the law on extended powers for confiscation of property acquired through criminal offenses, which required greater and proactive commitment of chief prosecutors and prosecutors to track down indictments and property suspected of having been acquired through criminal offenses is also identified.

In this regard, the Chief State Prosecutor, Aleksandër Lumezi, has asked the Chief Prosecutors to implement mandatory guidelines, in order to increase efficiency in the fight against corruption, economic crime, organized crime and other crimes, at the same time to make progress in increasing the degree of sequestration in function of the final confiscation of assets acquired through criminal offense.

Also, the Chief State Prosecutor has asked all Chief Prosecutors to advance the accountability and professionalism of the work of the prosecutions they lead, to strictly implement the new regulation of performance appraisal of prosecutors, as well as to increase transparency by communicating and cooperating with media and civil society in order to strengthen public confidence in the institution of the State Prosecutor.
