Prosecution Office in Prizren Requests Detention on Remand for Ten Persons

Prizren, March 2, 2025 – The Basic Prosecution in Prizren, General Department, informs the public that it has requested the Basic Court in Prizren to impose a detention on remand measure for a period of 30 days against ten (10) suspected persons: L.R., on reasonable suspicion of committing the criminal offense of “Organizing Pyramid Schemes and Illegal Gambling” under Article 294, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo, and P.B., B.Q., F.C., B.K., P.Sh., N.R., S.B., R.A., and M.Sh., on reasonable suspicion of committing, in co-perpetration, the criminal offense of “Organizing Pyramid Schemes and Illegal Gambling” under Article 294, paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 31 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo (CCRK).

 

According to the motion, on 28.02.2025, at around 23:00, in Suharekë, at the café “R.G.Z”, the defendant L.R. (owner of the establishment), with the intent of unlawfully obtaining material gain for himself, organized and participated in the organization of gambling activities, which are prohibited under Law No. 06/L-155 on the Prohibition of Gambling. He unlawfully and covertly used the premises for gambling, and when police officers attempted to enter the establishment, they found that the door was locked from the inside and the lighting was dim. Upon their attempt to open the door, the defendant L.R. opened it, and during a search conducted by the officers, a total of two hundred and eight (208) playing cards and ninety-six (96) AliExpress-branded cards with barcodes, suspected to be used for online gambling, were found on the tables where the aforementioned defendants were seated.

 

Additionally, from the aforementioned defendants, a total of fifteen thousand two hundred and sixty euros (€15,260) and one thousand two hundred Swiss francs (1,200 CHF) were seized. Furthermore, the defendant L.R., the owner of the establishment, was found in possession of three thousand three hundred and twenty-six (3,326) playing cards, which were used for gambling on the night in question.

 

The defendants L.R., P.B., B.Q., F.C., B.K., P.Sh., N.R., S.B., R.A., and M.Sh. have been placed in 48-hour detention as of 01.03.2025 for the aforementioned criminal offense.
