Ferizaj, February 28, 2025 – The Basic Prosecution Office in Ferizaj, General Department, informs the public that it has filed a motion with the Basic Court in Ferizaj – Kaçanik Branch to impose a 30-day detention on remand against the suspects with initials M.B. and M.B., from the village of Bllacë, Republic of North Macedonia – citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, on suspicion of committing the criminal offenses of “Smuggling of Goods” and “Obstructing Official Persons in Performing Official Duties,” under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
According to the Prosecution, there is grounded suspicion that on February 26, 2025, at around 21:00, the suspects, acting in co-perpetration and with intent, attempted to cross the border from the Republic of Kosovo to the Republic of North Macedonia, evading customs control. They were driving a black VW Sharan loaded with various goods, including clothing. However, near the village of Krivenik, approximately 200 meters before reaching the border, they were spotted by the police, who successfully intercepted them. This act constitutes the attempted criminal offense of Smuggling of Goods, as per Article 311, paragraph 1, in conjunction with Articles 28 and 31 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
Furthermore, there is grounded suspicion that, at the same date, time, and location as stated in Point I of the indictment, the suspects, acting in co-perpetration, intentionally and with force obstructed police officers in the performance of their official duties. While the officers were stationed at an observation point near the Kosovo-North Macedonia border, they noticed the suspects crossing the border in the VW Sharan and signaled them to stop. However, the suspects accelerated the vehicle in an attempt to hit officer A.Rr., who was outside the vehicle. In self-defense, the officer was compelled to use his official firearm, causing the suspects to change their escape direction. A pursuit ensued, and the officers eventually managed to stop the suspects’ vehicle.
During their arrest, the suspects resisted and physically attacked the officers, resulting in injuries that required medical treatment for officers A.R. and Sh.M. This act constitutes the criminal offense of Obstructing Official Persons in Performing Official Duties, as per Article 401, paragraph 5, in conjunction with paragraphs 4 and 1, and Article 31 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
The suspects M.B. and M.B. have been under a 48-hour detention order issued by the State Prosecutor since February 26, 2025, for the aforementioned criminal offenses.
