Clarification for public from the Basic Prodecution Office in Prishtina

Prishtina, June 18, 2024 – The Basic Prosecution Office in Prishtina, with the aim of accurate information, clarifies for the public the case which was presented on the “Nacionale” portal through the video Theft in the middle of the day in Prishtina, the owner catches the thief in the car – the prosecutor acquits him in the procedure”, where the injured party makes serious accusations against the prosecution, related to the initial treatment of this case, which are baseless and quite serious claims for the State Prosecutor, as a result of the lack of information.

The Basic Prosecution Office in Prishtina, on the one hand, protects the rights of the injured party and assures the same that it is handling the case seriously and against the legal provisions, but on the other hand, it clarifies for public that after receiving information from the police, the on call duty prosecutor has authorized the same to secure the camera footage and undertake the necessary investigative actions. Also, we clarify the public that the injured party in his statement to the media has given a contradictory statement in relation to his statement to the police, where as a witness of the case he does not present his wife or any other witness as stated.

Among other things, we clarify that so far we have not provided evidence that the car was opened by force, as well as the amount of money of €500-600 was not found on the suspect as claimed by the victim, however the Prosecution’s decision to send him into custody or not the suspect does not mean that if he is released from criminal responsibility even if the factual situation is proven correctly at a later stage of the procedure, until we assure the public that the State Prosecutor is implementing the provisions of the PCCRK regarding this criminal case and remains committed to fully shed light on the circumstances of this case and to any information that presents incriminating actions and has grounds for prosecution by the prosecution office.
