KPC discusses the situation created in the Basic Prosecution Office of Mitrovica

Prishtinë, 8 November 2022 – The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC), led by the Chairman Jetish Maloku, held an extraordinary meeting, in which the Chief Prosecutor of the Appellate Prosecution, Xhevdet Bislimi, that of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo, Blerim Isufaj, the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution Office of Mitrovica, Ismet Ujkani and international partners also participated.

This meeting began with discussions regarding the situation created in the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica, after the resignation of the prosecutors and the administrative staff of the Serbian community. On this occasion, the members of the Council have asked the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution of Mitrovica and the Secretariat of the Prosecutorial Council to evaluate the situation created and as a competent unit within the prosecutorial system to take the necessary measures and present to the Council concrete proposals for the proper functioning of work in the Basic Prosecution Office of Mitrovica.

During this meeting, the Prosecutorial Council the Prosecution Council was not released in the review of the resignations offered by the prosecutors and administrative staff, because an analysis and assessment of the situation created by the competent bodies regarding the eventual responsibilities that caused this situation is needed beforehand.

At the end of the discussion about the situation created in the Basic Prosecution Office of Mitrovica, the members of the Council said that they remained committed to the coordination of actions with other institutions, with the aim of the smooth running of work without interruption in this prosecutor’s office, but also the functioning of a safe legal environment in the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo. The competent bodies of Kosovo were asked to provide security for the employees and the facility of the Basic Prosecution in North Mitrovica.

During this meeting, the Council also confirmed the list of candidates for members of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council from among the prosecutors of the Appellate Prosecution and established the Review Committee for the announced position of General Director of the Secretariat of the Prosecutorial Council of Kosovo and Director of the Prosecution Performance Review Unit.
