Indictment for crimes against humanity and rape during the Kosovo war
Prishtinë, March 6, 2020 – The Special Prosecution Office of the Republic of Kosovo has filed an indictment by the Basic Court in Prishtina - Special Department, against the defendant Z.V. for the offense of War crimes against the civilian population and Rape during the war in Kosovo.
According to the indictment, the defendant Z.V. as a member of the police force of the reserve unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, in violation of the Rules of International Humanitarian Law, during the war in Kosovo on 22 May 1999, in co-perpetration with other members of the military, police and paramilitary forces Serbs, on the territory of the municipality of Vushtrri, participated in the deportation of the Albanian civilian population, perpetrating physical and psychological violence against them and by using violence and other inhumane acts, committed sexual assault as part of an wide and systematic attack towards the woman of Albanian nationality.
By these actions the defendant Z.V. in co-perpetration with other members, has committed the offense "Crimes against the civilian population" under article 142 in connection with article 22 of the Criminal Law of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, currently incriminated as Crimes against Humanity under article 143 par. 1 subpar. 1.4 , 1.6, and 1.7, in connection with article 31 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
