14 PEOPLE ARE ARRESTED FOR "ACCESSING INTO COMPUTER SYSTEMS", "FRAUD" AND "MONEY LAUNDERING"

Prishtinë, 8 November 2022 – By order of the Special Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kosovo, the Kosovo Police, the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime, respectively the Cyber ​​Crime Investigation Section, has conducted operations  in several call centers known as 'Call Center' in several neighborhoods of Prishtinë.

The Kosovo Police has implemented the authorization issued by the Special Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kosovo as well as the Court's order,  related to the identification of some suspected persons, their arrest and interrogation, the control of the locations of the suspected persons and seizure of evidence.

Also, the Special Prosecutor's Office announces that this investigation has been conducted in cooperation with the German Authorities, for several months

Also, there is a well-grounded suspicion that these persons have businesses registered in Kosovo as a “Call Center" and through it they have by phone communicated with various citizens, including Germans. During the communications, they managed to deceive the injured by pushing them to invest in various digital platforms, allegedly for investments. To carry out the fraud, the suspects have also used the computer system - the use of software for remote access, as well as the creation and use of websites.

The same with these actions have committed the criminal offenses "Access to computer systems" from article 327, "Fraud" from article 323 and "Money Laundering" from article 302.

The operation was carried out in support of various police units (police patrols, Forensics Units, K-9 Unit).

During this operation, fourteen (14) suspects were arrested caught in act including the main suspect who is a foreign citizen.

Also, various items were seized as evidence during this action, which will be used in further proceedings:

  • 2 vehicles;
  • 167 desktop computer;
  • 3 laptop;
  • 21 mobile phones;
  • 2 DVR;
  • 2 HDD;
  • 2 USB memory stick;

Various documents and other electronic evidence relevant to the case.

By order of the State Prosecutor, the 14 arrested persons are being kept for 48 hours detention.
