A Memorandum of Understanding is signed between the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor and other law-enforcement institutions for the operation of the Office for Assets Recovery

 

Pristina, April 12, 2024 - Today was held the inauguration ceremony of the Office for Assets Recovery, organized by the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor and the RoLAG Organization (Rule of Law Advisory Group) as an Implementing Partner of the Anti-Corruption Project (SAEK III) of the UNDP office in Kosovo, as well as in cooperation with the Basel Institute for Governance.

In order to make this Office functional, the Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi, together with the heads of the Kosovo Police, the Financial Intelligence Unit, the Agency for the Management of Confiscated and Seized Assets, the Tax Administration of Kosovo and the Customs of Kosovo, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

On this occasion Acting Chief State Prosecutor Kelmendi has thanked the representatives of the Basel Institute for Governance and UNDP for the support and assistance provided in various forms for the establishment of the Asset Recovery Office and has expressed his readiness for cooperation with all other law-enforcement institutions with purpose of operationalizing this Office.

The Office for Assets Recovery was established within the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor and is led by Mr. Bahri Hyseni, prosecutor at the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor. This Office provides assistance and advice in asset tracing, cooperation with financial institutions, forensics, accounting and international cooperation to achieve the objectives of case prosecutors for the return of assets acquired through criminal offences.

The inauguration ceremony of the Office for Assets Recovery was held in the presence of the Chairman of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Mr. Ardian Hajdaraj, the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo, the Chief Prosecutors of Basic Prosecutions, some state prosecutors from the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor, the Special Prosecution and from the Basic Prosecutions, as well as representatives of the UNDP Office in Kosovo and representatives of Basel Institute for Governance.
