A high delegation of the prosecutorial system of the Republic of Kosovo visits the institutions of justice in the Republic of Albania

Prishtinë, 29 June 2023 - A high delegation of the prosecutorial system of the Republic of Kosovo, consisting of the Chairman of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Jetish Maloku, Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Besim Kelmendi, Deputy Chairman of the KPC, Veton Shabani, Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution, Blerim Isufaj, members of the Prosecutorial Council and the Acting General Director of the KPC Secretariat, are staying for an official visit to the high prosecutorial institutions of the Republic of Albania.

The purpose of this visit is to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between interstate institutions, with the aim of exchanging experiences and finding forms and ways of advancing this cooperation in order to combat interstate crime, the common problems identified by the structures of both states and other essential aspects that serve to evaluate the ethical and professional activity of prosecutors, as well as to overcome challenges related to the general activity of the prosecutorial system and justice in general.


In the framework of this visit, on the first day, the high delegation of the institutions of the prosecutorial system of Kosovo was received in a meeting by the Chairman of the High Council of the Prosecution of Albania, Alfred Balla, the Chairman of the High Judicial Council, Naureda Llagami and the Inspector of the Supreme Court, Artur Metani, who thanked the Kosovar delegation for their visit, in which case they informed them about the general processes of constitutional and legal functioning and about the activities of these institutions of the Albanian state.


On the other hand, the Chairman of the KPC, Jetish Maloku, on behalf of the Kosovar delegation, has expressed his gratitude for the invitation and the offer of inter-institutional cooperation, with the aim of exchanging experiences that influence the increase of the efficiency and effectiveness of the prosecution of various crimes, professionalism , management and administration of prosecutorial systems, emphasizing the common need to continue this cooperation for the advancement of best practices within the rule of law.

On this occasion, both sides, during the discussions, have specially assessed the determination of the specific needs for a strategic cooperation for the investigation and prosecution of perpetrators of criminal offenses related to organized crime, corruption, economic crimes, money laundering, terrorism and cybercrime, as well as respecting freedoms and human rights through the implementation of the highest professional standards.


The delegation of the prosecutorial system from Kosovo will also have busy meetings during the next day with the heads of the General Prosecutor's Office, the Special Prosecutor's Office, the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, the Independent Qualification Commission and the OPDAT Program.
