The Acting Chief State Prosecutor met the UN special rapporteur for the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression
Prishtina, April 4, 2023 - Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi, held a working meeting with the UN special rapporteur for the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, at the same time a lecturer at the International Institute and Development Studies in Geneva, Ms. Irene Khan, who was accompanied by her colleagues from the Office of the United Nations - High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva.
During this meeting, both sides talked about freedom of expression in Kosovo, cases of inciting hatred and division, the way of communicating with the public, as well as cases of threats and violence against journalists.
Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi expressed his commitment to the more serious treatment of these issues, in particular the treatment of journalists’ cases, and highly appreciated the visit of Mrs. Khan at the institution of the Prosecutor Office.
