CLARIFICATION FOR PUBLIC OPINION

Prishtinë, 9 December  2022 – Regarding the statement Mr. Glauk Konjufca, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, dated December 8, 2022 on Dukagjin television Special Prosecution  Office of the Republic of Kosovo (SPRK), in order to provide fair and accurate information to public opinion, deems it necessary to provide the following clarification:

The SPRK , as the competent authority for the investigation of criminal offences, which group also includes criminal offenses committed in the northern of Kosovo, assures the public opinion that for these cases the competent prosecutors have undertaken all investigative actions as determined by the legislation in force , giving the necessary authorizations for the police to undertake all investigative actions, including arrests according to arrest warrants issued for all persons who are suspects in this case. As determined by the legislation in force, the prosecutor's office leads the investigations and supervises the work of the police during the investigation, while other actions based on the orders and authorizations of the prosecutor's office are undertaken by the investigative bodies of the police.

The SPRK informs the public that the prosecution does not make public statements about its work and  investigation that undertakes for the cases being investigated, and did not do this even when the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo personally went to the scene when the Kosovo police were attacked in the north, considering that the rule of law and order in every corner of the country is the purpose of the work of the prosecution, and not the publication of the investigation of any case.

However, for the sake of fair reporting, the SPRK announces that it has handled many criminal cases that have occurred in the north of Kosovo, some of which have resulted in arrests, indictments, and many of them are still under judicial review, and some of these cases are targeted by the Joint Team for the Selection and Targeting of Serious Crimes led by the Chief Prosecutor of the PSRK.

In the end, we would like to strongly emphasize that the SPRK  is fully committed to ensuring that all criminal cases within the legal competence of the prosecution are handled professionally and with the highest efficiency and invites all institutions to refrain from statements about criminal cases, especially those that are in the investigation phase, because such statements, in addition to damaging the image of the prosecution in the eyes of the public, but not only, can create uncertainty for citizens and encouragement for all persons involved in  criminal activities.
