INDICTMENT FOR WAR CRIMES AGAINST THE CIVILIAN POPULATION
Prishtinë, 18 November 2022 – The Special Prosecution Office of the Republic of Kosovo (SPRK) informs the public that it has filed an indictment in the Basic Court in Prishtinë - Special Department, against the defendant Ç.J, of Serbian nationality, resident in Serbia, citizen of the Republic of Serbia, due to the well-grounded suspicion that it has committed the criminal offense "War crime against the civilian population", sanctioned by article 142 in relation to article 22 of the Criminal Law of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (hereinafter "LP-RSFJ" ) as the law in force at the time the criminal offense was committed.
The Special Prosecutor's Office announces that the defendant Ç.J is accused that during the time of the war in Kosovo, from January 1998 to June 21, 1999, in the territory of the Municipality of Istog, in complicity with other persons, violating the rules of international law has tortured civilian people, injured Z.M, N.F and N.C.
In addition, this prosecution informs that sufficient relevant legal evidence has been provided during the investigation that proves well-grounded suspicion that the above-mentioned defendant, in collaboration with other individuals of the Serbian police and military forces, participated and contributed to the commission of the criminal offense for which is being accused.
The defendant is being kept in detention, under the decision of the Pre-trial Judge, until a new decision by the Court.
