Acting Chief State Prosecutor and Head of EULEX talk about the rule of law

Prishtina, November 1, 2022 - Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi, received in a meeting the Head of the European Union Mission for the Rule of Law in Kosovo, EULEX, Mr. Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, accompanied by the Head of the Monitoring Pillar, Mr. Benny Jensen and the Human Rights Adviser to this mission, Mrs. Valentina Vitaly.

Acting Chief State Prosecutor and the Head of EULEX had fruitful discussions regarding issues involving the rule of law, with special emphasis on identifying and overcoming common challenges, advancing cooperation in the function of consolidating a fair legal system, achievements and difficulties in dealing with various criminal cases that are monitored by the EULEX mission, as well as the exchange of views on legal reforms, especially for the entry into force of the new Code of Criminal Procedure.

In this context, Acting Chief Prosecutor Kelmendi assessed the support and expertise of EULEX as extremely necessary in increasing efficiency during the handling of various criminal cases.

Also, Acting Chief State Prosecutor expressed the institutional readiness to address all the recommendations that emerge from the EULEX monitoring report regarding the work of the State Prosecutor, in this case, he highly valued the process of monitoring various criminal cases, thus influencing positively in advancing the professional work of state prosecutors.

In the end, both interlocutors assessed this meeting as quite useful and productive, and expressed their mutual willingness to deepen institutional cooperation in the future.
