The advancement of cooperation between the State Prosecutor and EUROJUST in the field of criminal justice is discussed

Prishtinë, 25 October 2022 – Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi, accompanied by the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Blerim Isufaj, and the Prosecutor of the Chief State Prosecutor's Office, Mrs. Sevdije Morina - at the same time the coordinator of the Prosecutor's Office for International Legal Cooperation, hosted a delegation from EUROJUST, headed by the vice-president Mrs. Margarita Šniutytė, accompanied by the project coordinator Mrs. Azra Ikovic and legal officer Ms. Florina Bisog.

This is the first official visit of a high delegation of EUROJUST to the Republic of Kosovo, which is of particular importance and aims to promote the strengthening of international cooperation as well as to facilitate mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

The essential topic of the joint discussions between the representatives of the State Prosecutor and EUROJUST, was the need to sign the memorandum of cooperation for the implementation of the "WB CRIM JUST" project, which will begin to be implemented in the Western Balkans, a project that has aimed at increasing cooperation in the region in serious criminal cases and organized crime, bringing together prosecutors and other relevant law enforcement authorities in the coordination of investigations as well as in the establishment of joint investigative teams which will enable more effective investigations.

On this occasion, within the framework of the implementation of this project in the field of criminal justice, the State Prosecutor was invited to nominate prosecutors as points of contact, as well as the establishment of permanent liaison points between the State Prosecutor's Office and EUROJUST, which as it was estimated that they will give positive effects in the development of joint operations against crime.

In this context, the representatives of the institution of the State Prosecutor have highly valued the visit of the EUROJUST delegation, describing it as an important moment that sets a new stage of cooperation between the respective institutions, in which case they have expressed their readiness to full implementation of all obligations and responsibilities arising from mutual cooperation.
