UN Women Support for Prosecutors` capacities building
Prishtina, 23rd of September 2016 – Chairman of Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Blerim Isufaj, members of the Council, Deputy Chief State Prosecutor and Prosecutors, have met with Prosecutor Maxine Marcus, International Expert on Transitional Justice, with a special focus on sexual crimes that have happened during the war time. This activity has taken place for the purposes of discussing opportunities for support by UN Women for Prosecutors dealing with sexual crimes that have happened during the war time in Kosova.
During this meeting the discussions were regarding War Crimes treated in Kosova by UNMIK and EULEX and, for the possibility of transferring to local Institutions the expertise on this area.
On this occasion, Prosecutor Marcus has expressed readiness for developing professional capacities of Prosecutors for dealing with cases in the area of sexual crimes that have happened during the war in Kosova.
Kosovo Prosecutorial Council and UN Women have also agreed to draft a special program for professional development of Prosecutors.
