Kosovo Prosecutorial Council dismisses one prosecutor and suspends another

Pristina, May 10, 2019 - The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council held the 167th meeting, led by the Chairman Bahri Hysni, in which are considered and taken decisions on the foreseen points of the agenda.

One of the most important issues was the adoption of the establishment of two mechanisms, which are set out in the Strategy for War Crimes - Task Force for the processing of the resource analysis, to be composed of representatives from the Council, State Prosecutor and Kosovo Police, as well as the Monitoring Body for monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of the implementation of this strategy, which will be composed of the Chairperson of the Council, the Chief State Prosecutor, a Kosovo Police Representative, the Ministry of Justice and the EU Office in Kosovo.

Also, the Council has decided to propose to the President of the country the dismissal from duty of the prosecutor Argon Matjani due to the serious violation of the official duties, a decision that came after the disciplinary proceedings were conducted by the respective commission.

The Council subsequently approved the request of the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor for suspension with pay for a prosecutor due to suspected violation of the official duty and obliged the relevant Commission to address these violations.

In this context, the Chairman of the Council, Bahri Hyseni, said that every decision of this institution is of great weight. Therefore, the Council and the State Prosecutor are carriers of increasing and strengthening the transparency, efficiency, accountability, integrity and dignity of Kosovo's prosecutorial system.

Also, members of the Council approved the request of the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution Office in Gjakova, for which a decision was made to make the internal announcement for advancement of a prosecutor from the General Department to Juvenile Department, after retiring Xhavit Osmani.
