Gender sensitive practices in the judiciary, topic of the workshop of the Forum of Women Judges and Prosecutors

Prishtinë, 27 October 2023 – The Forum of Women Judges and Prosecutors, in cooperation with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission in Kosovo, organized a workshop on gender sensitive practices in the judiciary.

Representatives of all levels of judicial and prosecutorial institutions participated in this workshop, including the chairwoman of the Forum of Women Judges and Prosecutors, Mrs. Vlora Pacolli-Rexhepi, member of the KJC, Mrs. Teuta Ibrahimi, member of the KPC, Mrs. Jehona Grantolli, Prosecutor in the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor, Mrs. Sevdije Morina, representatives of the country's courts and prosecutors' offices, as well as from the Kosovo Police, Mr. Fadil Abdyli.

On this occasion, the president of the Forum of Women Judges and Prosecutors, Mrs. Vlora Pacolli-Rexhepi, thanked the OSCE Mission in Kosovo for the support of the Forum of Women Judges and Prosecutors of Kosovo and for creating opportunities for gender empowerment in the judicial and prosecutorial system of Kosovo, which have an impact, not only in structure and the legal system, but also in society's trust in the justice system itself. Meanwhile, the representative of the KJC, Judge Teuta Ibrahimi, emphasized that such meetings will serve as an initiative of cooperation to strengthen the position of women in the judicial and prosecutorial system within the framework of gender-sensitive practices in the judiciary.

Also, special attention was paid to the challenges that appear in the work environment of women judges and prosecutors, with special emphasis on combating cyber violence against women and creating a supportive work environment for women judges and prosecutors, in which case panelist was also the member of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, prosecutor Jehona Grantolli, who emphasized that all the institutional mechanisms of justice should be maximally engaged to achieve the objectives that empower and advance the role and responsibility of women in the judicial and prosecutorial system of Kosovo.

During today's sessions, a call was made for the implementation of the best gender practices and standards in the Judiciary, with the aim of ensuring and guaranteeing values that reflect equality, regardless of race, gender and religion, as provided by the Constitution and the laws of the country.

Consequently, in this workshop, it was said that initiatives such as today's serve to strengthen the position of women in the judicial and prosecutorial system and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of justice, creating equal treatment for everyone in recruitment procedures regardless of gender and personal status.

At the conclusion of the workshop, it was emphasized that the Forum of Women Judges and Prosecutors, which is composed of women judges and prosecutors, will continue its work and commitment with great dedication to strengthen the position of women in the judicial system, guaranteeing gender equality, dignified and meritocratic treatment.
