Reaction of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council to the statements of the Prime Minister of Kosovo and ministers of the government cabinet

Pristina, August 19, 2023 - The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) strongly reacts to statements with extremely tendentious, untrue and lynching content against the Prosecution Institution and its prosecutors, made yesterday and today by the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and government cabinet ministers, on the basis of prejudices and conjectures, trying to attack the prosecutorial system in any way and in any case.

The KPC calls to the Prime Minister and the ministers of his government cabinet to refrain from continuous blackmailing and therefore demeaning statements towards the prosecutorial system of Kosovo in general and towards the work of prosecutors in particular, attempting to publicly lynch everything that has to do with the prosecutorial system and the work of state prosecutors.

The KPC clearly and steadfastly emphasizes that such baseless statements and accusations and such an approach by another power, attacking and lynching the chief prosecutors and prosecutors by name and surname, is an intolerable violation and a failed attempt to interfere in the independent work of the State Prosecutor.

In addition, the KPC declares that it will strongly support and protect with all the legal means at its disposal the professional work of all prosecutors of the Republic of Kosovo and, on this occasion, makes a public call to all factors, in particular, the Government of Kosovo to stay away from such statements, attempts at direct and useless interference and pressure, which contradict the laws in force and the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo.

Therefore, the KPC condemns the misuse of free speech by the Prime Minister and his ministers, stressing that these statements are completely useless to the State Prosecutor, who is not influenced by political circles and interest groups, but as an institution of independent and impartial in the exercise of his mandate, he will go to the end of every suspected case of misuse of public money and to the detriment of the citizens of Kosovo, regardless of who he is, what he believes in and what he has done.

The Prosecutorial Council is committed with all its mechanisms to work, protect and advance every value of integrity, dignity and public transparency, as well as to fight any tendency for pressure and interference by anyone.

The KPC calls for the State Prosecutor, his work and mission, to be outside any agenda of daily politics, because the assessment of the work of prosecutors does not depend on the will of certain individuals, subjects and groups, nor these incorrect statements and actions , unethical and undignified will not succeed in diminishing the work of the prosecutors.

The KPC points out that the State Prosecutor, as an important part of the justice system in our country, will work intensively for the enlightenment until the end of all cases at work, against all those officials who are suspected and clothed with power, despite attempts to intervene, pointing out finally and with consequence that the independence of the prosecutorial system is essential and important in the path ahead of us.
