Kosovo, participating in the Forum for Strengthening the Cooperation of Prosecutorial Systems of the Balkan States
Pristina, 17 October 2019 - As part of the development of regional co-operation of prosecutorial systems in Izmir, Turkey, the First Forum of the General Prosecutors of the Balkan States is being held which is attended by a Kosovo delegation composed of Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Office of the Republic of Kosovo, Afrim Shefkiu and the General Director of the Secretariat of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Lavdim Krasniqi, where many Chief Prosecutors and prosecutors of Balkan prosecutorial systems are present.
The purpose of organizing this forum is to discuss the importance of strengthening regional cooperation of prosecutorial systems, in order to support the investigation and prosecution of serious and cross-border crimes, and then to increase efforts to strengthen institutional and professional capacity through exchange of information experiences and increased cooperation in the field of justice between the Balkan countries and beyond.
Consequently, the delegation from Kosovo presented at the sessions of this international forum on behalf of the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor and the state prosecutorial system in general, setting out future goals for the establishment of joint investigation teams with representatives of the rule of law institutions of two or more countries, the designation of teams for specific offenses based on agreements between states, membership in professional organizations and the issuance of protocols and agreements between states, issues that are among the main challenges of the prosecutorial system not only in Kosovo.
During the development of the forum, a joint statement of participants will be adopted, requiring increased engagement with requests from different countries and the organization of such workshops with actors from the institutions of the rule of law of regional states, which help to overcome mutual challenges.
