Gjilan, August 30, 2024 – The Basic Prosecution Office in Gjilan, General Department, has requested the Basic Court in Gjilan to impose a 30-day pretrial detention measure against the accused Z.D., based on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of “Endangering Public Traffic,” under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
According to the request, there is well-founded suspicion that the accused Z.D., on August 29, 2024, around 3:10 PM, on the Gjilan – Preshevë road, specifically in the village of Velekincë, recklessly endangered public traffic. By driving his vehicle in violation of Article 50 of the Road Traffic Rules Law, Z.D. failed to adjust his vehicle’s speed and did not exercise proper care for pedestrians. As a result, he struck pedestrian R.Xh., who was crossing the road at that critical moment, causing a fatal accident. The injured pedestrian was transported to the Regional Hospital in Gjilan for medical assistance, where he later passed away.
The accused is currently under a 48-hour detention order by the duty prosecutor for the aforementioned criminal offense.
