The Week of Access to Public Documents is marked

 

Prishtinë, 25 September 2024 – In the context of marking the Week of Access to Public Documents, the member of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) from the ranks of civil society, Mr. Visar Krasniqi, was today part of a discussion panel on the implementation of the Law on Access to Public Documents, invited by the Agency for Information and Privacy (AIP). Representatives of courts, independent agencies, media and civil society participated in this panel.

Mr. Krasniqi, during his speech, emphasized the importance of access to public documents, which is incorporated in the right to freedom of expression, because citizens, media and civil society are enabled to access and participate effectively in public life and in the issues they have to do with their lives and society in general. The prosecutorial system already has a well-defined legal framework for access to public documents, such as the Regulation on Access to Public Documents of the Prosecutorial System, which clarifies how there can be more and more public transparency”, Mr. Krasniqi said on this occasion.

Also, Mr. Krasniqi explained to those present that, according to the reports on access to public documents, it turns out that the spirit of the requests for access to public documents of the prosecutorial system was of a financial nature and the spending of public money, but there are also others, as well as officials are committed to not infringing on the sensitivity of cases and protecting personal data, these issues, which are part of the essential aspects for strengthening transparency and increasing institutional accountability.

In the discussion panel, it was emphasized by Mr. Krasniqi that the publication of disciplinary decisions and data related to statistics on the level of performance of state prosecutors was an achievement..

At this table, it was said that from the measurements made, it results that 80% of requests for access to public institutions are related to documents, which, in fact, should be published, because this will consequently result in a better decision-making , will increase the communication of citizens and civil society with public bodies and especially highlights institutional integrity.
