Prishtinë, 4 March 2025
On the occasion of today’s public statements given by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, regarding his failure to appear at the Special Prosecution Office to give evidence as a witness, regarding suspicions of misuse of state reserves, Although the Basic Court in Pristina had issued an order for his appearance at the prosecution, the Prosecutorial Council and the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor recall that the implementation of the law cannot be misinterpreted according to the tastes, interests and daily needs of the Prime Minister in office, by making statements outside the basic principles of the rule of law in the Republic of Kosovo.
According to the KPC and the State Prosecutor, these statements constitute only his personal views and worldviews on the rule of law, because actions to implement the law are an obligation, not only for the prosecutorial system, but also for the Prime Minister, the Government, but also for any other institution and citizen of the country.
KPC and OCSP emphasize that the statements made continuously by Prime Minister Kurti seriously damage the functioning of democratic institutions and are aimed at undermining the engagement of the State Prosecutor in efforts to strengthen the rule of law in the Republic of Kosovo.
Regardless of Prime Minister Kurti’s attempts to degrade constitutional bodies, the KPC and the State Prosecutor strongly encourage and support the Special Prosecution Office in fulfilling its legal duties and responsibilities, such as investigating, prosecuting and clarifying each criminal case that falls within its competence, with the aim of raising morale and strengthening the obligation to respect the law in our country.
