Prishtina, February 1, 2023 – The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) informs the public that it has continuously participated in the working groups during the process of drafting the Law on Salaries in the Public Sector, in which case it has offered concrete proposals and comments regarding this law, but which have not been taken into account by the relevant government bodies.
Consequently, today, following the publication of the value of the coefficient by the Government, in fact, it is openly confirmed that the salaries of the state prosecutors and the salaries of a part of the administrative staff in the prosecutorial system of Kosovo have been significantly decreased.
On this occasion, expressing our strong opposition regarding the determination of the salary coefficient, we request once again that the request of the Prosecutorial Council addressed to the Ombudsperson for the referral of the Law on Salaries in the Public Sector to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo be fulfilled.
The KPC finally concludes that in this case the functioning of the prosecutorial system has been breached, because the claims raised on time are based on acts, practices and international standards, which cannot and should not breach the independence and functioning of any power.
