Joint reaction of the KJC and KPC

Prishtinë, 27 June 2022 - The Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC) and the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) react to the statement of the Levizjes Vetëvendosje MP, Mr. Dimal Basha, who commented on the issue of vetting for judges and prosecutors, through the article on the portal Insajderi.org, dated 24.06.2022, with the title: "Vetëvendosje MP for prosecutors and Kosovar judges: They do not differ from those of Milosevic”.

The KJC and the KPC express their dissatisfaction and consider that the statement of MP Basha is unacceptable and aims to violate the integrity, independence and damage the image of the judicial and prosecutorial system in general. A member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo should be an example of respect for law enforcement bodies and refrain from such statements that are contrary to the order and constitutional and legal principles.

Such statements and reactions do not contribute to the cooperation of institutions with the judicial and prosecutorial system, therefore the KJC and KPC call on MPs to contribute by reflecting and respecting the independence of both systems.

The Judicial and Prosecutorial Council assure all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo that they will continue to commit to an independent, transparent and impartial judicial and prosecutorial system. Therefore, we call on MP Basha to avoid this kind of statement, which, in this case, according to the assessment of the KJC and KPC, is insulting, denigrating and unsuccessful attempt to tarnish and label the values of the judicial system and prosecutorial in general.

We emphasize that the judicial and prosecutorial system of the Republic of Kosovo consists of professional institutions, established by the Constitution and laws, which are committed to fulfilling their mission, vision and objectives and are unaffected by any claim.
