The Chief State Prosecutor and the Head of EULEX mission talked about the rule of law

Prishtina, November 8, 2021 - The Chief State Prosecutor, Aleksandër Lumezi, received in a meeting the Head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo EULEX, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark.

The process of legislative changes, institutional reforms, efforts to strengthen the rule of law in the Republic of Kosovo and the discussion of other issues of common interest were the focus of the meeting between the Chief State Prosecutor and the Head of EULEX.

On this occasion, Chief State Prosecutor Lumezi informed the Head of EULEX Mission about the institutional positions for these processes, referencing arising from the functional review of rule of law, institutional challenges and the commitment of the State Prosecutor’s institution in the fight against corruption, organized crime, terrorism and other criminal offenses.

In this context, the parties praised the progress achieved in the field of rule of law, especially in the targeting of new cases, in which case the need for increased dynamism in the real reflection of this progress was emphasized.

The Head of the EULEX Mission, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, pointed out the need for additional capacities in the investigative work on corruption, terrorism and inter-institutional cooperation between the Prosecution and the Police to advance the work of the Prosecution.

Both interlocutors assessed this meeting as very useful and productive and expressed mutual readiness to deepen institutional cooperation in the future.
