The Chief State Prosecutor, Aleksandër Lumezi, received the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Prishtina, Frank Power

Prishtina, December 16, 2020 - The Chief State Prosecutor, Aleksandër Lumezi, received in an introductory meeting the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Prishtina, Frank Power. The purpose of this meeting was to present the new Council of Europe project on combating trafficking in human beings.

Initially, Chief State Prosecutor Lumezi informed the Head of the Council of Europe Office about the commitment of the State Prosecutor to strengthen the rule of law, institutional commitment to respect human rights, with special emphasis on the protection of victims of crime and prioritizing cases of trafficking in human beings.

The two interlocutors discussed the modalities of cooperation between the State Prosecutor’s institution and the Council of Europe Office in projects and areas related to preventing and combating trafficking in human beings, addressing the findings and recommendations arising from (GRETA), which is a liable mechanism for assessing the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, as well as for building professional and technical capacity for prosecutors, police officers, victim advocates and social workers in dealing with these cases.

In this context, the Head of the Office of the Council of Europe in Prishtina, Frank Power, has expressed his readiness to deepen cooperation with the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor, giving added value to advancing the capacity of justice institutions in combating more effective cases involving trafficking in human beings.

At the end, the Chief State Prosecutor, Aleksandër Lumezi, thanked the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Prishtina, Frank Power, for the visit and interest, where he stated that they know well the value of cooperation in the past with the Office of the Council of Europe and welcome the possibility of deepening this inter-institutional cooperation in the future.
