The KPC is taking steps to advance the protection of human rights

Pristina, 18 December 2019 - In the framework of the celebration of Human Rights Week organized by Law Faculty of AAB College, a roundtable discussion was held where, among other things, the human rights platform was presented, funded by the Norwegian Government and UNDP.

This roundtable was attended by the Chairman of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Bahri Hyseni, who told the students of this College that the KPC is taking steps to advance the protection of human rights, in order to provide citizens with timely investigations, efficient procedures to prosecute perpetrators and bring them to justice, as required by law. "Our daily commitment is to implement the legislation fairly and impartially, while respecting the citizens with dignity and on the basis of European principles and standards," said Hyseni.

Further, Chairman Hyseni said that regarding the treatment of criminal offenses against human rights and freedoms during the period January - September 2019, Kosovo Prosecutors received 22 cases with 50 persons and solved 17 cases with 31 persons.

Concerning the best implementation of human rights, including the rights of children in criminal proceedings, Chairman Hyseni has announced the arrangement of juvenile interviewing rooms in basic prosecution offices, which have all the necessary conditions and equipment according to standards of the most advanced states.

At the end of his speech, the KPC Chairperson said that the Regulation of Procedure for mediation of cases has been drafted and that the office of the State Prosecutor has applied the mediation procedure, enabling the parties to the proceedings to resolve criminal cases without delay and without delay of justice, this regulation, which also enables the application of the principle of economizing criminal procedure.
