Fight against corruption, a priority of the prosecutorial system

Pristina, December 10, 2019 - Chairman of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Bahri Hyseni, attends a roundtable organized by the Kosovo Institute of Justice titled: “High-profile Corruption Amnesty: Unheard Corruption Alerts by Justice” , a roundtable organized in the framework of the activities of the NGO Coalition on the occasion of the Week against Corruption 2019.

Chairman Hyseni in his speech before the participants presented concrete activities conducted by KPC, which relate to the fight against corruption. “The prosecutorial system has treated corruption cases with priority. In this regard, the KPC Chairperson and the Chief State Prosecutor have realized visits to the Kosovo Prosecutor's Offices at the beginning of 2019, with the aim of increasing efficiency in combating corruption cases and providing support to eventual obstacles in dealing with these cases. . The Council has also established a special unit for combating corruption and economic crimes at the Basic Prosecution in Pristina”, said Chairman Hyseni.

The chairman of the KPC has introduced other mechanisms created by the prosecutorial system that deal with the fight against corruption, but also presented statistics on corruption cases in general and corruption of official persons in particular. The head of the KPC stated that “in the cases of corruption of official persons and criminal offenses against official duty related to public procurement, Kosovo Prosecutor's Offices have handled 9 cases with 27 persons and solved 7 cases with 24 persons. In addition, corruption cases are also included in the list of targeted cases, where out of 57 targeted cases, 47 are of a corruption nature involving 171 persons. Based on the Strategic Plan of the prosecutorial system, combating corruption will be an objective of the KPC for years to come”.

Finally, Chairman Hyseni also talked about the Law on Protection of Whistleblowers, where, according to him, the Council highly appreciates its approval, whereupon it immediately appointed the responsible official to receive and handle the whistleblowing for the entire prosecutorial system.
